Privacy Policy

heybudget is operated by Sunup Studios ("we", "us"). This policy explains what we collect, why, and what you can do about it.

1. What we collect

  • Account details: your name, email address, password (stored hashed, never readable), and a profile photo if you add one.
  • What you enter: accounts, balances, transactions, categories, budgets and goals, including anything you import from a CSV file.
  • Piggy bank members: who belongs to each piggy bank, and the email addresses of people you invite.
  • Billing: your plan and subscription status. Card and payment details go to Paddle, not to us.
  • Waitlist: your name and email address, if you join the waitlist.

heybudget does not connect to your bank, and we never ask for your banking password.

2. How we use it

Only to run heybudget for you: signing you in, showing your piggy bank to its members, sending the emails the service needs (such as invitations, password resets and trial reminders), handling billing, and fixing problems. We don't sell your information, and we don't use it for advertising.

3. Who else sees it

  • Members of your piggy bank see its shared accounts, budgets, goals and transactions. Accounts marked private are visible only to their owner.
  • Service providers we rely on to run heybudget, only as much as each one needs:
    • Paddle processes payments as our merchant of record.
    • Bento sends our emails. It records whether emails are opened and links are clicked.
    • Laravel Nightwatch monitors the app for errors and slow pages, which can include technical details of the request that hit a problem.
    • Laravel Cloud hosts the app and its database on servers in the United States (US East, Ohio).

We may also share information if the law requires it.

Where it's stored. We're based in Canada, and your information is stored and processed in the United States, where our hosting provider's servers are. While it's there, it's subject to US law and may be accessible to US authorities under that law.

AI apps you connect. If you connect an AI app such as Claude or ChatGPT (Settings › Connected apps), it can see what you can see in piggy banks on a paid plan, and change things only if you allowed it. What it receives is then handled under that app's own terms. Disconnect it any time.

4. Cookies and local storage

We use essential cookies only, to keep you signed in and protect forms. Your browser also remembers a few preferences, such as light or dark mode. We don't use analytics or advertising cookies.

5. How long we keep it

We keep your information while you have an account. When you delete your account, your user record is deleted straight away. To have everything removed, including piggy banks you own, email us and we'll take care of it.

6. Your choices

  • See or correct your details in Settings at any time.
  • Get a copy of your information by emailing us.
  • Delete your account from Settings › Profile, or ask us to delete everything.
  • Unsubscribe from non-essential emails using the link in them.

7. Security

Connections to heybudget are encrypted, passwords are hashed, and you can turn on two-factor authentication in Settings › Security.

8. Changes to this policy

We'll change the date at the top when we update this policy, and email account owners about significant changes.
